This sanctuary is located where the Nilgiri
Hills, the offshoot of the Western ghats meet the eastern ghats. The Mudumalai
wildlife sanctuary has varied mixture of flat land, undulating parkland, open
grassland, swamp, valleys and nullas. The Moyyar river in this region forms
a series of spectacular cascades on its way.

Kms. away from Udhagamandalam and situated along the Udhaga-mandalam- Mysore
highway, this sanctuary could be reached from Mysore as well. This 321 Sq.km.
wide sanctuary encompasses a National Park spread in an area of 103 sq.kms.
The vegetation is varied with moist deciduous.
It becomes dry deciduous towards Bandhipur, mainly mixed forests with Bamboss (Bambusa arundinacea), Terminalia tomontosa, Grewia, and blooming trees
The fauna include Elephants, Gaur, Bonnet Macaque, Common langur, tigers and leopards, Chital, dhole panther, Sloth Bear, Python, barking deer, Four- Horned Antelope, Otter, Crocodiles (mugger), Giant flying squirrel, Sambar, Hyena, Wild Dog, Wild Boar, Mouse Deer, Spotted Deer, Jackal.
The Birds in this sanctuary are Peacock - India's National bird, grey jungle fowl, the red spur fowl, the grey patridge quails, goggle eyed plower, Malabar whistling thrust, large racket-tailed dronge, the shama, the magpie-robin, spotted babbler, small green barbet, green pigeons, little brown dove, malabar grey hornbill, bulbuls, mynahs, etc.
Birds of prey like eagles, hawks, falcons and king vulture and some migratory water birds can be watched. From Udhagamandalam you can (Base camp at Parson's Valley) trek to this sanctuary and the mukkurthi Park.
Day 01: Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary
A drive of a few kilometers in the park along the road will introduce you to a variety of bird and butterfly species, especially the Lepidoptera. The park is home to more than 225 species of birds including Peafowl, Bulbul, Flycatcher, Kingfisher, Drongo, Bushchats, Hoopoes and other rare species such as the green-billed malcoha.
Besides these, other wild attractions of the area include animals like the common mongoose, huge mammals such as Elephants and Gaur, some species of deer including sambar and cheetal, a leopard or perhaps even a tiger.
A major attraction is the highly endangered Grizzled Squirrel, which can be seen playing around on the trees near the Chinnar checkpost.
Day 2: Chennai- Mettupalpyam
In the morning drive to Vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary. The sanctuary is located about 50 kilometers away from Chennai. Vedanthangal Bird Sanctuary is popular for the population of herons. A number of migratory birds like pintails, garganey teals, shovellers, stilts, sandpipers visit the sanctuary in winter. Later transfer to railway station to board the overnight train to Mettupalpyam.
Day 3: Mettupalpyam- Mudumalai
Upon arrival transfer to Mudumalai. Late afternoon proceed on a trek through the jungles of Mudumalai Wildlife sanctuary. Overnight at the jungle resort in Mudumalai.
Day 4: Mudumalai
In the morning proceed on to visit the Madumalai Sanctuary. The sanctuary is home to large of wild animals, prominent among them are bonnet, macaque, tiger, wild dog, hyena, sloth bear and spotted dear. The sanctuary also has sizeable population species of birds. Overnight at the jungle resort in Mudumalai.
Day 5: Mudumalai - Bandipur - Mudumalai
In the morning head on a day excursion to Bandipur Wildlife Sanctuary. The sanctuary is located on the Mysore-Ooty Highway. In 1973, the park was declared a tiger reserve. During the jungle safari in the park, you will spot various wild animals. Later, return to Mudumalai. Overnight at the jungle resort in Mudumalai.
Day 6: Mudumalai-Mukurthi
In the morning drive to Mukurthi Wildlife Sanctuary. Upon arrival check into the jungle resort. Overnight at the jungle resort in Mukurthi.
Day 7: Mukurthi
In the morning explore the Shola forest. Overnight at the jungle resort in Mukurthi.
Day 8: Mukurthi-Ooty
In the morning drive to Ooty. Ooty is a famous hill station in South India. Upon arrival check into the hotel. The rest of the day is at leisure. Overnight at the hotel in Ooty.
Day 9: Ooty-Annamalai
In the morning explore the beauty of Ooty. Later drive to Annamalai Wildlife Sanctuary. Upon arrival check into the lodge. Overnight in the lodge at Annamalai.
Day 10: Annamalai Wildlife Sanctuary
In the morning, take a trip to elephant camps and forest. Enjoy your date with the one of the giant creatures on earth. Overnight at the lodge in Annamalai.
Day 11: Depart-Cochin
In the morning transfer to airport to catch a flight back home. Tour ends.
